Always the sun

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Well aren’t I the stupid one.  And no it’s really not a question.  After nearly 7 months of cold gray abismal weather,  the weather is decidedly summery here.  This past weekend the temperature reached 83………yaaaaay finally.  However I managed to not respect the sun and have given myself the most astounding sunburn……..jeeeeesh my shoulders are so red I could hide in a berry field and you would not find me.  Anyway I’m currently working on a little critter that I’m really loving,  I can’t wait to get him finished and show him off.  On other news I’ve finished my pile of mice for the artomat and have started on the cats,  they are looking pretty cool but take me longer than the mice which is a bit of a bummer.  I can’t wait to get the boxes and send them on their way.

Well here he is…

the Pink Panther, the rinky dink panther (what on earth is rinky dink anyway? you don’t hear so much of that anymore)

pink panther pink panther

I like him and my husband (a.k.a my harshest critic) says he is my best critter yet.  High praise indeed.

On another note I had my hair cut finally.  So I am back to having it short and it is a million time better.  I look less crazy cat woman now.  So here is my donation for locks of love….

It’s nice to think it will do some good for someone.

Busy week

Friday, April 20th, 2007

I’ ve been really busy this week, which is a really bad thing as I only made half a critter this week. There is nothing sadder than a critter needing legs looking out at you longingly from the workspace.

But it’s also a really good thing as I submitted my project idea for the artomat – wanna see?

So I am really thrilled as they loved it……..yaaaaaaay for me I am going to be in the artomat. If you don’t know what the artomat is boy are you missing out. I am completely addicted to it and always buy 2 tokens for it from Pop delux in Madison when we go, but anyway check it out – http://www.artomat.org/ . I am so excited and can’t wait to make a few different critters for the boxes I feel like I should start now….but I guess I should wait till I get the boxes huh?

So it’s been a great, busy, productive week.

Could spring possibly be here?

Monday, April 16th, 2007

yaaaaaaay, I sure hope so. Although so far I’ve thought that twice already this year only to have my hopes dashed by snowstorms and rain.

But today was glorious so I went for a very long walkie joggy thing and took my camera. Why the camera? well I wanted to take pics of boring stuff for theomegahappening.com. Even if they don’t like my pics I had such fun taking pics of inane, boring stuff. People in the park were looking at me like I had gone round the loop, as I took pics of the underside of a picnic bench and the electricity pylon shot was raising lots of eyebrows.

But I don’t care, after 7 months of cold miserable weather I am so happy to see the sun I do feel a little loopy.

And the good news is I am finally going to get a haircut……..thank god as I am starting to look like Bella my crazy cat lady.

I am going to donate my hair to locks of love though it’s long enough to do some good.

Another new creation

Snoopy dance……..

snoopy snoopy

He is writing the great American novel.

A friend of mine keeps getting me in trouble for making stabbies that are not original to me,  but I really enjoy making things that have to look like something (if that makes sense).  I mean it’s harder to make something look exactly like something that people know and love than something made up.  One little detail can make the little critter look completely wrong.

But I am currently working on new creations so bear with me Matt.

Scary Papa Lazou

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Another new creation. It’s scarey Papa Lazou.

I’ve always found it rather amusing that people are so scared of clowns…..maybe it’s all Stephen King’s fault but anyway here he is….Papa Lazou Papa Lazou

I guess he’s scary but I love him anyway.

The best Saturday

The Intuit outsider art gallery was even better than I thought it would be,  really nice gallery space and really fantastic artwork featured.  They had these really cool fruits that had been carved out and dried,  hard to explain but really effective.  I also talked to the people in the store in the hope they would be interested in selling my work.  That would be utterly fantastic,  I was thinking last night how if I knew what the exhibit theme was going to be I could make needle felt specific for it.  Right now in the main gallery for example is alien paintings and I could make little black and white aliens…………or not.  I guess I like doing my own thing too.

On another creation note…………Do you like my mama needs new shoes bracelet?

This is Bella……

.bella

Bella is a bit of a crazy cat lady. She is always in her white terry cloth bathrobe and always has her gray hair up in a french twist. She has lots and lots of cats but Mr Pendlebottom is her favourite. He is constantly clawing and wailing at her to be picked up. Don’t believe me look…..

Bella the crazy old cat lady

aww he loves his mama.

Bella the crazy old cat lady

I really enjoyed making bella and mr. pendlebottom they took me two days in total but I put so much detail in to them.  Bella is fully string jointed and she has her underwear on underneath the robe.  Mr Pendlebottom has a string jointed head so he can be posed easily around Bella.  I made the robe from a white handtowel.

I think I am going to make a series of characters like these guys anyone have any suggestions?
