Autumnal goodies…..

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

For the first time ever I’m going to do a show in October.   The St. Cornelius Parish in Chicago’s Jefferson Park neighborhood is hosting a Fall Fest on Saturday  October 3rd,  and while it sounds like brilliant fun I don’t have much in the way of Octoberie/fall goodies……….until now

pumpkins pumpkin faces

I’m loving putting little faces on everything right now (you probably guessed that with my acorn obsession)…….I guess the anthropomorphic magic is really strong  in Critterville right now.

I’m of course busy, busy, busy in preparation for the show………eeeeeeeek exciting!!!! lots of pumpkins and new goodies to come too.

Lil’ hanging captured critters…

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I recently bought some little glass votive holders,  I  originally bought them because I thought they looked like goldfish bowls and I had the idea of making little fish for them (it may still happen).  But as usual my mind cranked into overdrive and I made this instead……….

lil woodland scene

I really like how whimsical it turned out but figured it was lacking something special so………….. I made it a little hanging basket.

scene2 scene

I love how this looks hanging up……..and don’t worry I am already on it making different captured critters, but I will add the hedgie to the shop asap.

Whaaaaaat!!!!!

September 1st!!! already!!!! Good Grief……when the heck did that happen?  I’m shocked.

I do love the fall, don’t get me wrong……I just absolutely hate aknowledging the end of summer,  although these wee guys just might get me through it….

acorns

Oh how I love acorns,  we found a giant oak tree on Sunday night that I had managed to never see before (not sure how I managed that) and the acorns are positively huge so the caps needed to be filled with a lot of wool to be convincing which of course got me thinking they looked like heads with hats on and voila……..

acornsI want to make a million of them as they make me smile to make them and just looking at a wee pile of them makes me giggle.    I turned the first batch into pins………what do you think?

Gotta make the donuts…….

Except I don’t anymore as I made the donuts yaaaaaaaaaaaay

dunkers3

dunkers

It’s funny for me making the dunkers as I start to really, really hate sewing repetitively,   but  nothing makes me smile like seeing a big stack of donut faces looking up at me in awe.

This little batch is a little different from previous batches as I found some great czech glass beads and teeny tiny button stars and hearts that work great as sprinkles,  and sewing them on at least makes the donut makin’ business a little more interesting.  Right back to the sewing…………..sigh,  gotta make the donuts.

anthropomorphism

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Oh how I love that word………not that I would like to say it 3 times fast though,  but I love to give the critters little human touches.  And how about these girls?

knitting sheep

knitting sheep

It’s Ewenice, Baaaaahrbra and Maaaaaaahry can you just imagine the wooly conversations at the knitting group?  I like to think that they are hiding out from the rather annoying bo peep who apparently can’t even cast on.

I made these guys for unique yarns. You know the trouble with selling at a seriously gorgeous yarn store is I find myself looking at all the yarn rather enviously,  but having no real knitting abilitity all I can do is admire the fabulous colours and textures……….well not anymore!!!  I’m trying to find little ways to incorporate knitting and the critters,  the sheep seemed rather obvious and I’ve just finished 20 little scarves that will be keeping some little characters snuggly warm this winter.   I have a few more guys in mind but I’m going to keep you guys in the dark for now.   Right it’s back to work.

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good……

nah not really.  It’s just I’m in a little bit of a potter frenzy these days,  you see we finally made it to the Harry Potter exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago  this past weekend…….and eeeeeeeek it was great

harry-potter flying car

The museum really did a top notch job at presenting all the film props,  they even hired a whole bunch of British people to tell the stories of the artifacts which definitely added to the fun.  We managed to illicit a few stolen iphone pics inside the exhibit but my hubby still hasn’t downloaded them…..haruuuuumph,  I think he’s afraid I’ll post the piccie of him and buckbeak.

And more proof I have been good really?  hmmmm,  well then let me share my 2 newest critters.

tommy tommy

Tommy the little torro and

bulldog bulldog

Winston the bulldog,  both inspired by my recent vacation.   I guess i want to make a critter for my Scottish trip but I need to order wool………dontcha just hate when that happens?  i just know he’s going to be rattling around in my brain till I finally do make him.

And other than that all has been quiet in critter land……..I have been thinking about boring things like  a new sofa and possibly a bed but it’s very hard to persuade my hubby to spend money on such things especially seeing as how he could buy a bigger tv instead……….honestly how dumb are men?

sometimes comes from peculiar places,  take these lil’ guys…..

I got the idea to make little mice hair clips because (as you know) I adore mice and so I started browsing around etsy for some unique and unusual micey goodies……and then it occured to me what I hoped to find, something for my hair…….but alas it was not to be found.  After first being a little disappointed it hit me……doh!!!! make ’em myself so here we go…..I love ’em they look completely wacky in my hair

I also got a most excellent cheshire cat ceramic on ebay for cheap (yaaaaaaaaaay gotta love ebay) but it got my mind to thinking of all things Alice….. and as you know we can learn a lot of things from the flowers which is how these came about

And no need to paint them red as they already are,  although I will probably make them in lots of other colours too (sorry Queen of hearts).

So in a few days (5 to be exact) it will be Stabbies blogaversary and I’m thinking of doing a little giveway to my loyal readers (i.e you) so stay tuned to find out what’s in store.  And speaking of birthdays today is my mum’s birthday,  so Happy Birthday mum!!!!!!  hope the champers is on ice.

bun buns and bikes

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

This weekend we drove to Indianapolis to attend the North American Handmade Bike show (which means I win the wife of the year award).  Mark was in heaven and spent the 3 plus hours walking around with a huge nerd grin on his face,  I mostly walked around remarking that bike guys certainly know how to cultivate the funkiest of bodily odors (pooooooo)

It was kinda fun for me to see the similarities between a bike show and a craft show though… I suppose it just depends on what you are into,  chrome bags and handmade bikes or screen printed tee shirts and handmade 2d toys.

This week was mostly spent on making  Easter Bun Buns…..

I love Easter,  it’s the promise of Spring and warmer weather and budding flowers and more importantly it is the holiday that has the best chocolate………..mmmmmmm cadbury’s creme eggs.  I guess we got a while to wait for Easter but fortunatly the choccies have already started appearing in the shops (and in my refridgerator)  yaaaaaaaaay.

When bad things happen…….

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

to good eggs,  you get the lil rotters……

The coming of Spring (fingers crossed) has encouraged me to finally start cleaning.  I had noticed the giggles and whispers and constant shushing coming from the crisper in the fridge for quite a while……and wouldn’t you just know it the eggs had gone bad……..well maybe not bad but definately a little rotten.   Oh well maybe they will get less stinky if I let them socialise a bit.

But I doubt it.

Stu the Bunny

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Meet Stu the bunny,  Stu is a rather manic little critter he’s an ex magician’s assistant and I think he has been affected by the many hours spent hiding in the lining of a very dark top hat…….poor Stu.

He’s very happy to be retired now and is determined to enjoy his free time………in fact only yesterday his friend  was talking about personally training him in the ways of the kitchen he just needs to bring his own pot………..Glen has always been a good friend to Stu.

So did you all have a nice weekend?   have a romantic valentine’s day?  We were pretty low key about it (as usual) I did make my valentine’s present for Mark and I think he appreciated it (at least he’s not stoopid enough to say he didn’t).
