Happy New Year everyone!  Christmas and New Year were as always packed with too many good times,  beer and great food.  But sadly it was our last holiday spent with our big, beautiful baby Kirzstie

On January 6th he finally succumbed to hyperthyroidism and old age.  I held his paws, thanked him for being our cat and  told him we loved him.

We were fortunate enough to have had him in our lives for 9 years (he was approx 9 when we got him) and lucky to have had 10 Christmasses  and New Year’s celebrations that included the big man.  My heart is broken at his passing and he will be missed forever.

Things I learned in 2012 a year in review (and other stuff)

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013

Personally 2012 was a fabulous Year for us (which I am incredibly grateful for).  We bought our fabulous first home and spent many glorious summer days enjoying the deck

We learned that having a house that backs onto the woods makes us something of  a critter hangout……

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the poor squirrels who I muttered at and bad mouthed around town for emptying my bird feeders instantly……….turns out they were innocent and it’s more to do with these guys

I know the picture isn’t the best but I hope you can see that the real seed thief is the white tailed deer…….we have at least 4 that regularly come and hang out in our yard (love them)

I also learned that as much as I love a roaring fire (I mean how could you not?  a real fireplace was pretty high on my list of house requirements when we were looking.)

It sure does take a lot more work than I thought starting from when the cord of wood arrives

I guess my problem is I really am a city girl,  I had absolutely no concept of how much wood a cord is…..thank goodness we have the world’s best neighbours as they gave me a log holder and a log bag that made stacking all that wood a lot easier.

I also vended at the most fun Christmas Craft fairs and met so many super nice vendors and shoppers and Spencer  got a new Mom in Hingham

He looked so happy to have found his forever home,  which makes me happy to know he will be so loved.

This Christmas we did all our Christmas gift shopping from Crafters, artists and independent stores and I  absolutely love my pressies this year……Mark did a great job.  Some of my fave goodies are my vintage santa and reindeer table topper, my vintage apothecary jars and my Heidi Kenney Christmas ornaments……I especially love the candlestick.  I also got a cast iron circus elephant door stop that I forgot to take a picture of… and he is quite simply one of my favourite things ever. My parents sent me some pretty unique pussy cat frames from Spain that I have on my kitchen window.

So here’s to 2013 I hope it’s as brilliant as 2013 and brings us all lots of good things…..and more regular blog posts from me ; )

Brilliant Boston!!!

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Sorry I’ve neglected the ole blog…….but as usual I have a brilliant excuse!!!!!! ………….. I LOVE it here!!!!

The actual getting here  20 + hours in a 26′ uhual truck towing a mini and with high strung cats in the cabin was as you can probably guess not very fun,  but Kirzstie enjoyed it once he found the air vent.

Boston is totally fabulous!!!!  We are absolutely loving it here,  there is just so much to see and do and our new apartment completely rocks……..now all the boxes are finally gone.  I of course have been busy with the critters (which is trickier with all the distractions) because I am thrilled to tell you we are going to be at the Sowa Open Market this summer……yaaaaaaaaaaaaay the market is super cool and I can’t wait for the first show this Sunday……..

Back to work.

March………wooooohoooo!!

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

That means Spring is 19 days away,  yipppeeeeee!!!!  and as we all know Spring means it’s almost Summer….and jeeesh I can’t wait for summer.  Anyway I’ve been very busy with the critters the last couple of weeks…..and I’m finally gonna update the shop with a couple of new guys.

First up is the oddballs

I can’t tell you just how much I LOVE making these guys…….they always make me smile when they are finished and I love that they all have distinct and very odd personalities,  much like myself.   As of last week a bunch of Oddballs decided to head on out to pastures new and  can be found in their only Wisconsin home,  Zip Dang on Monroe Street in Madison.  How very exciting!   I just hope they behave themselves.

I also made some mini bears

They sure are cute……..And last week they decided that the Glitterworkshop in Madison was the only place perfect enough for their picnic parties.  I will add a couple of oddballs and teddies to my Etsy shop for fun though as it seems like a very long time since I’ve put anything new in there………oooooops.

I also just made a facebook page for the critters (wow, that took a while huh?)  so as Sally Field once gushed………Like me,  please like me…..Lulu’s Stabby Critters on facebook

Going back to Cali…

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

It’s that time of year again……yup it’s pep talk time for Markie ,  which is always especially lovely for me as we  get to stay at the Del on Coronado island for a whole week.  Oh how I love the Del.   While we are there it’s going to be our 12 year wedding anniversary (can’t believe it’s been 12 years already).  So anyway I’ll give you an update  of the trip when we get back which will be around the 25th as we are also going to Los Angeles for a bit too……….yaaaaaaaaay I’m excited.

I thought I’d share a couple of  my favourite custom orders I did over the holidays…….First up I made an homage to Goo,   Goo is the beloved teddy bear of Andrea’s baby Bennett and looks like this

and then my stabby recreation

I hope Andrea liked him,  I thought he was a real cutie and he got me thinking of the possibility of little bears for the ole’ craft booth…………we will see.

I also got my Mario fix for the year as Elizabeth requested a Yoshi kart…..

Yoshi was probably my hardest challenge in a very long time,  the kart was very hard to figure out how to make it look convincing in wool.  But I love how it turned out and I hope Elizabeth does too.

Speak to you after the 25th as I’m off to pack for California………..yipeeeeeeeeeeeee

Viva!!!!

Las Vegas……………woooohooo in a few hours we are Vegas bound,  and I can’t wait!!!!!

You guys should know that if I’m not back with piccies and news in 14 days that I won a million dollars on 7 red………..oooooh how nice (and completely unrealistic) would that be?  very………. as I never play roulette ; )

See you when I get back.

Weekend update…

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

So the Crafter’s round up has come and gone and it was a ton of fun.  Quite a few critters found fabulous new homes in Chicago,  I was very sad to see Connor go but thrilled to think that he had found such a lovely new mummy…..

So cute!!!

The weather was fabulous on Saturday we even saw disgraced ex governor Rod Blagojevich Jogging in the neighborhood  (the hair truly is a sight to behold)………but Sunday was a whole other story……..(gotta love the Midwest in Summer) after toughing out 3 hours of rain,  the winds came and the fear of losing my precious new E-Z up to the great blue yonder was just to great,  so sorry if you headed out to Chase Park to see us as we were already Rockford bound.

Many thanks to the rather fabulous Pam who thought of me when she saw some rather fabulous cloches at a friend’s yard sale………they are truly awesome and I can’t wait to capture some critters under them.

So this Sunday we have the Summer Craftacular in Madison Wi

Just keep your finger’s crossed Sunday’s weather is blue skies and beautiful………

It’s August?………..already?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Wow………when did that happen?  I’m shocked,  time it really does fly by…….

I can’t believe tomorrow the Crafter’s Round up is finally here,  I’ve been stabbying like crazy for weeks in preparation for it and now I’m finally starting to feel like I might not have a half empty table after all……….phew,  that’s a relief (although I’m not sure at this point what I would do  if I wasn’t feeling ok )

So remember if you are in the Chicago area to come on by to Chase Park and say hi to the critters this weekend.

I remembered that I never ever did show you guys some of my birthday goodies even though I said I would,  aren’t I awful?   Anyway to rectify this blatant blog neglect I thought I’d show you what my friend Matt sent me…..

Norman the big snow rabbit made by Etsy sellers monsters etc……..and I just absolutely love him!!!  you should check out their store for other cuties too!!  many  thanks Matt.

Mark bought me quite a few goodies,   my favourites being this cute fishy made by Michele Smith of Mud Spun Studio that I fell in love with at the art fair on the square,  he’s supposed to be a ceiling fan pull but I have him hanging up on my bathroom cabinet….

He also got me a pizza slice

A Heidi Kenney pizza slice for Kidrobot silly…………not a real pizza slice,  although that would have been greatly appreciated too……….mmmmmmmmm pizza.   I recently bought this little guy for myself on Etsy too with the pretense that it was part of my birthday……

I just loved it at first sight……it’s a vintage find from Etsy seller Bethtastic who is based in Chicago and has a lot of very cute jewelry in her shop,  and it’s perfect for me as I am born in the year of the rabbit in the Chinese zodiac…….gosh I really will find any excuse to validate my needless spending sprees won’t I?  Shameless!!

I’m off to pack up the critters for their trip to Chicago,  hope to see you this weekend.

Nellyphants on parade…….

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

The circus is starting to arrive in  Critterville…….first up Nellyphants

They are kinda tricksy to take piccies of as they are so well trained they go into incredible stacks of amazing wonder as soon as you point a camera at them………but I’m glad they are here and that the circus is coming together……they will be appearing in the shop asap too.

Yesterday we went to Chicago to see She and Him in Millenium Park,  it was crazy busy in the way a free concert in Chicago can only be.  But they were really, really great……not as great as how cool the Geary stage is surrounded by the big buildings though

The park really is a lovely venue for a show,  and it was a brilliant way to spend a sunny Monday night.

It’s Summertime……

Monday, May 24th, 2010

It must be as the temps are finally hitting the 90’s here……..I love the sticky hot of summer,  nothing better than sitting outside and getting some rays enjoying an ice coffee or 4, which I guess means you now know how I spent the last week.

Although Connor bounded into our lives in the meantime

He’s a sweet if rather timid lil’ fella and he will be heading to the shop soon.

Meanwhile my head is buzzing with sewing projects……always slightly dodgy for me,  as I always think big when it comes to sewing projects but my skill set is always a damper to my plans.  Regardless I shall be heading of to the fabric store a little later today to purchase the required fabric…..let’s just say lots of red and white pinstripe,  and that’s the only clue you’re getting.  I’m so excited to start but scared of the possible outcome if I can’t follow through on my grandiose plans.

Can’t wait to show you what I’m up to but I’d better get back to it………….
